MyGlam September 2012

MyGlam bags from October onwards are officially under the ipsy umbrella.  The bags will still be called MyGlam bags and are supposedly more customized based on the answers in the on site Beauty Quiz.  Similar to the Birchboxes, I've been receiving them all this while but have not posted photos and my thoughts on them because I'd wanted to film them and all that jazz.  Away from that delusion, I will be having them posted here a little more often.

For my September bag I didn't receive the regular cards that come with it.  I'm not sure if it's because they weren't shipped with the bag or if vsHUB didn't ship them to me.  I received 4 full size products and a deluxe sample.  Not bad so far.

September's bag is a black nylon wristlet with gold plated hardware.  It's definitely one of the bags I received that I like.  The simplicity of the design and material makes it quite wearable for going out.  (Yay!)

SOHO Smudge Brush [ Value : US$5.97 ]
Available at Walmart

I've never tried this brand of make up brushes before but I've recently heard about it.  The pink handle is a similar color as the Real Techniques pink ferules.  The smudge brush is lightweight with synthetic black brush hair.  The brush hair is short, has a medium density with a slightly domed cut.  This brush is suitable for applying an all over wash of color on eyelids, blending crease colors and smudging eye shadow.

Mirabella Eye Colour in Semiformal [ Value : US$10 ]
Available at Mirabella

Mirabella is another make up brand new to me and an eye shadow pan in a shimmery bronze brown shade was included in the bag.  This is a workable shade and can be used alone or with a blend of other colors.  The eye shadow has decent pigmentation despite not having the buttery texture of eye shadows I enjoy like the Urban Decay eye shadows.  I would definitely use a base with this though.  The Mirabella Eye Colour comes in 36 shades and is paraben-, gluten- and talc-free.  Enter promo code ipsy at checkout until 30 November 2012 for 30% off your purchase on the site.

jane. Sparkle Gloss in Sparkle Pink [ Value : US$3.33 ]
Available at Jane Cosmetics

I remember seeing jane. products while browsing Nordstrom Rack during my trip to LA.  This is a full size mildly sweet scented lip gloss that is sold on the jane. website as a trio for US$9.99.  100% of the net proceeds from the sale of the trio goes towards a charity that gears towards empowering women.  Sparkle Pink is a bright pink shade with hot pink micro glitter.  For purchases of $14.99 and above, use promo code JaneIPSY at checkout for a 20% discount valid until 14 October 2012.

Carols Daughter Monoi Repairing Split End Sealer [ Value : US$5.59 ]
Available at Carols Daughter

Here's yet another brand that's completely new to me.  This came a little too late for me since I had 6 inches of my hair cut off recently which included a few split ends.  My hair was a bit too long for my liking.  The sample comes in a pump tube and the product has a slightly creamy mid-weight consistency. It's fast absorbing and doesn't leave a greasy residue or feel.  Not a big fan of the scent though.  It reminds me of the Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Mask scent which for me can be somewhat overpowering.  I suppose on hair it would be a bit more subtle.  A full size bottle is US$25 (1.7 fl oz) and should help with those who want to keep the length of their hair but are troubled by split ends.  The product can be used on both wet and dry hair applying a pea size amount through the tips.  There is a 25% discount on all items on this page with promo code IPSY25 valid until 26 October 2012.

Circus by Andrea's Choice in Tightrope [ Value : US$5.99 ]
Available at Circus by Andrea's Choice

This is the 3rd and last nail polish from the Circus by Andrea's Choice collection for the MyGlam bags.  This particular shade, Tightrope, has a dull satin finish in a bright almost neon purple pink color.  It's actually described as a rich purple hue but it applies more pink to me than purple to be honest despite the very purple photo on the ipsy website.  The second photo shows my nails with 1 layer of the polish and the last with 2 coats, both without a base or top coat.  I don't have long nail beds which would've made for awesome nail photos, so this is me working with what I've got.  I think it's a nice and fun color which goes on thin.  The formula is very different from other nail polish brands I've tried and layers well.  The closest to this consistency that I've tried is the Butter London Nail Foundation which is a base coat and not a nail color.  The collection is sold as a set of 5 for US$29.95 plus shipping and handling.  The nail polish is vegan, cruelty free and free of toluene, formaldehyde and DBP.

Conclusion

September's bag has a total product value of US$30.88.  I like the wristlet that came this month as well as the SOHO brush.  The lip gloss, eye shadow pan and nail polish were nice to have while the hair repair serum doesn't quite apply to me at the moment.  I definitely enjoy MyGlam but since they upgraded their payment system and are not able to accept my Malaysian credit card as was previously possible, I may not be able to renew my membership at the end of the year.  They are working on making the bags available internationally and as usual, Malaysia isn't high on anyone's list to ship to which is a bummer.  If only they received payments from international ipsters who can receive packages in the US.  Please?
